New Product Development (NPD) in the North of England.
Though based in Manchester, I have travelled up and down the length of the country to work on various products. Working with bakeries in Manchester, Leeds and even down in Chichester, developing new burger recipes for Burger King in a NPD facility near Derby and manufacturing pizzas in Rochdale, it's safe to say i've moved around with my work! But a lot of the foundations start on a laptop and I am able to work on advancing NPD projects from right here in my Manchester home.
I am an experienced product developer and/or NPD manager able to create bespoke products and see them through the entire NPD process or manage the development workflow alongside third-party manufacturers. I am in contact with a raft of specialist ingredients contacts and suppliers able to help with issues ranging from:
- HFSS
- Sugar/carb reduction
- Texturising (Gums, hydrocolloids, etc)
- Flavouring/colourings
- Vitamin/mineral fortification
- Shelf life
I have developed and overseen the development of products that have sold millions of units online and made it into physical retailers including The Co-op, Holland and Barrett and Ocado. I can assist with presentation decks for buyers, whilst managing ingredient sourcing and pricing, accurate calculations for nutritional compositions (legally acceptable on product packaging) and external shelf life testing if required.
NB: I have a specialism in the healthy/free-from areas including low-carb, low-calorie, low-sugar, gluten free and vegan, but am more than capable of developing with full-fat/sugar options in mind too. As a development chef or NPD manager, I can advise and assist at all points in the process for those developing products of this nature.
What does this NPD chef actually make? Well, a wide range of products actually!

Recipe Development
Using a companies existing products, I can create, photograph and write the copy for any number of recipes or blogs. I have written near to 1000 recipes already, including three cookbooks (examples available on request). Combined with my SEO knowledge, these can become high-performing assets for any food company.

I am engaged in helping bring a number of NPD goals to fruition - from breads to cereals, crackers to snack bars . Heylo largely sell low-carb baked products to a rapidly growing audience via their own website and in Holland and Barrett and Planet Organic. This work takes place alongside copywriting/SEO and product marketing, including blogs, recipes, site copy and email campaigns.
Extons / Burger King (Freelance NPD)
A short but important project working for Extons, saw me represent them as a member of Burger King's 'King's Council' NPD team. Collaborating with a number of chefs representing various manufacturers and ingredient suppliers, we developed new burger recipes to be fed into BK's consumer testing funnel later this year and with a potential commercial release in 2024.

A project set be Rachel from Extons saw me set them up with research presentation on upcoming pizza trends, flavours and other research for 2024, giving them the base information to conduct a sales meeting with the pizza manufacturer.
